Wayne Richmond, Music Director is a native Californian with degrees from Westminster Choir College in organ and the University of Southern California in choral music with an emphasis on vocal production. Wayne also studied choral literature and performance with emphasis in the music of French Composers of the 20th Century with Walter Collins and Lynn Whitten at the University of Colorado. Wayne oversees the entire program and often transcribes and arranges some of our pieces.
Wayne's career includes church music ministry, college teaching, and community choral organizations. He and his wife Harriet have served in several major churches throughout the United States including the Cathedral of the Rockies, Boise, Idaho; First Presbyterian Church, Boulder, Colorado; the 5000 member Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, Houston, Texas; and the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, Haddonfield, New Jersey. Wayne has served on the faculties of Northwest Nazarene College, Loretto Heights College, The Colorado School of Mines, and summer sessions at Westminster Choir College. In 1975, he founded the Boise MasterChorale.
Highlights of Wayne's extensive conducting career include the Verdi Requiem, Brahms' Requiem and Handel's Messiah at the Air Force Academy Chapel. He and Harriet founded a series entitled Basically Baroque while in Boulder which specialized in the performance of music of the Baroque period for orchestra, solo instruments and chorus. He is also a published arranger of music for organ, brass and percussion. He serves as organist and chorale preparation for the Jubilate! concerts with the Academy of Vocal Arts directed by David Antony Lofton. Harriet Richmond, serves as rehearsal accompanist and concert organist for MasterChorale. An alumnus of Westminster Choir College, Harriet helps to administer the extensive HUMC music ministry. Harriet accompanies the Chancel Choir, the New Jersey MasterChorale [NJMC] and is Coordinator of Children's Music Ministry. In 1987, Harriet and Wayne were honored with the Alumni Merit Award for contributions in the field of church music by Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey.
Wayne and Harriet oversee a widely varied music program at the church including the Chancel Choir, High School choir, Children’s Music Ministry, bell choir, Praise Team, as well as MasterChorale. The 1958 Austin Organ has been expanded and meticulously maintained over the years and is one of the finest in the area. World-class recitalists have performed here including Virgil Fox, Diane Belcher, Gordon Turk, Scott Detra, Daniel Roth, Hector Olivera, Paul Jacobs, Dame Gillian Weir and Michael Stairs.
